SANCTUM HOUSE | CORONAVIRUS DISEASE PROTOCOL 2020 (COVID-19)
We want to inform you about the precautions Sanctum House is taking to keep our residents, staff and volunteers safe during the COVID-19 outbreak. We value everyone we come in touch with and are doing everything we can to keep everyone healthy. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
We owe a huge thank you to our Medical Director, Dr. Jodi Flanders, for leading our team in developing our comprehensive plan COVID-19.
PREPARE AND PREVENTION
- Review and update list of local organizations for assistance for information, healthcare services, support, resources
- Stay up-to-date with current COVID-19 news and developments in the state of Michigan at www.michigan.gov/coronavirus
- Create emergency contact list for each resident, employees, volunteers, healthcare providers, local health department
- Prepare a room at Sanctum House that can be used to separate sick household members from others
- Review handwashing guidelines (see below) and provide disposable hand towels. Residents to keep personal bath towels in their own private space
DAILY PERSONAL ACTIONS
- Wash hands with soap and warm water frequently, scrubbing for at least 20 seconds
- Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
- Stay home when sick
- Cover cough or sneeze with a tissue and then throw in trash; proceed to wash hands after. If no tissue, cough into upper arm
- Use personal bathrooms rather than general bathroom
- Clean and disinfect frequently, paying special attention to door handles and other surfaces frequently touched by multiple individuals twice daily
SANCTUM HOUSE ACTION FOR PREVENTION
- Take temperature of residents and staff twice daily
- Isolate resident if fever, cough, or shortness of breath and contact healthcare provider for further guidance
- Seek immediate medical attention if emergency warning signs for COVID-19 develop
- Emergency warning signs include:
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Chest pain
- Confusion or inability to arouse
- Bluish lips or face
- Limit close contact to others (6 feet)
- Strict avoidance of physical contact (hugging, handshaking)

- Clean and Disinfect household surfaces (counters, light switches, remotes, desks, tables, hard backed chairs, doorknobs, kitchen appliances, bathroom toilets, sinks) at least daily
- Disinfect phones, keyboards after each use
- Increase ventilation by opening windows
- Avoid sharing personal items
- Continue care of the mental health of residents, staff, volunteers
- Confirm all residents have 30 days of all medications available
- Encourage outdoor air and activity
SANCTUM HOUSE VISITATIONS, MEETINGS, APPOINTMENTS, STAFF
- Use video conferencing for meetings when possible
- Outdoor gatherings when feasible
- Postponement of all large gatherings until authorized by CDC, following governmental guidelines
- Cancel all business travel
- Limit entry to only essential staff & volunteers
- Staff to remain home if ill, as well as staff with family member ill or in contagious condition

- Healthy staff and residents to conduct themselves as if they were a significant risk to residents, staff, and volunteers with underlying conditions (example but not limited to diabetes, heart disease, cancer, autoimmune disorders, lung or kidney disease)
- Limit visitors under 18 years of age
- Postpone all unessential resident appointments, meetings, and day passes
