Sanctum House Responds to Urgent COVID19 Need with virtual engagement campaign, Joining #GivingTuesdayNow in Global Day of Giving and Unity
Royal Oak, Michigan Tuesday, April 21, 2020 – Sanctum House is responding to meet the everyday needs of our residents by offering support.
#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity, set to take place on May 5, 2020 as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity, citizen engagement, business and philanthropy activation, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.
Due to this unprecedented pandemic, Sanctum House has had to cancel or postpone most fundraising events until October 2020 or 2021. At the same time, some of our regular donations that go toward general operating expenses have drastically decreased. In fact, food donations are down by 75%.
At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together across the globe. Generosity gives everyone power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on. It’s a day for everyone around the world to stand together and give back in all ways, no matter who or where we are.
Sanctum House is participating in Giving Tuesday Now to highlight the courage and hope that is exemplified by the women survivors of human trafficking that we help each day and to promote the continued support of these women.
This is an incredibly stressful time for everyone in our community. Sanctum House has been successful in the past because of the many resources of which our community engages and gives. Due to this unprecedented pandemic, we have had to cancel or postpone some of our major fundraising events, third party fundraising has ceased, and we are receiving dramatically less donations.
“As a global community, we can mourn this moment of extreme crisis while also finding the opportunity to support one another. We each have the power to make an impact with acts of generosity, no matter how small, and to ensure the sustainability of organizations and services that are crucial to the care and support of our communities,” said Asha Curran, CEO of GivingTuesday.
