Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is a global issue. The women that we serve come from our local communities, as well as through our connections nationally. When we opened Sanctum House on February 12, 2018, after 5 years of research and development, we became the first facility of its kind in southeastern Michigan. We offer treatment for up to 12 women utilizing protocol that is trauma informed and resident centered. Given that we are a drug free environment, and most of our residents come to us with addiction issues, our therapeutic vantage point is one of the dual diagnosis of trauma and drug addiction. The organizations that we partner with assist us in offering our residents exceptional care in all arenas.
We offer integrated services that include mental health, physical health and other supportive services. We also offer educational and spiritual programs customized to our residents interests and needs. From a life that may have looked like there was no future, our residents receive services and experiences that help them create a life of vibrance and success. We collaborate with a myriad of agencies in our geographical area and offer education and life skills training to prepare for self-sufficiency. The experiences offered will help build self-confidence, teach life skills and give trainings based on the resident’s intake and personal assessments.
Through our outreach program, we continually bring awareness to the community. Our goal is to reach out to vulnerable youth, parents and communities to help potential victims avoid the trappings of the ‘life’. We provide information on indicators, support systems and what to do if you know of a situation in progress. Education and awareness are essential to helping eradicate this horrific crime.
Human trafficking is a $150 billion industry and growing. By definition, it is an illegal activity that includes the elements of force, fraud or coercion and affects over 40.3 million people. Sadly, slavery still exists. Sanctum House is proud to be part of the solution.
